Permission to Change- learning to trust yourself

running

I recently changed my workout routine. Like, quit the gym that I have been a member of for almost 9 years and decided to try something totally new. I had been feeling unmotivated, uninspired, and lazy, and I wanted to try something that I would get excited about again.

Even though I hadn't actually BEEN to the gym more than twice in the past 3 months...you will not believe how much I agonized over the decision to end my membership.

Would I regret it as soon as I made the cancellation official, and have to pay a crazy fee to re-join as soon as I realized what a terrible mistake I had made? Would I end up feeling the same way about the new workout program after just a few weeks? Would all of my workout buddies hate me for ditching them?

I doubted myself and second guessed myself for weeks.

Change is hard ya'll.

It wasn't until a convo with a friend, where she told me about making a similar decision about her own workout routine, that I was finally ready to cut ties.  "It's perfectly normal to need to change it up," she said. "Sometimes what has worked for years just isn't working anymore and that's ok."

I thought about that for awhile and then told her, "You know what, you're right. Thank you. Sometimes I just need to hear someone else say it."

And you know what she said?

"You just needed Permission to Change."

Permission to Change.

It's the name of this necklace for a reason. (Spoiler alert, my friend is familiar with this necklace, so it wasn’t like she magically pulled those words out of nowhere- because that would have been epic. But she made her point in a way that she knew would catch my attention).

Trust your inner voice

We are all learning to trust ourselves, so sometimes we just need a reassuring voice to reflect back to us what we already know deep inside. Even when we know what we want, we need the change forced upon us, or we need someone else to let us know it'll be okay, that they've been down a similar road and it all worked out in the end.

This necklace was built around that message.

You need permission for something? Here it is!

Trust your gut, follow your heart, and know that you are in control of your own life. You can change paths (and change back!) anytime you want. We weren't put on this earth to live a life of habit, we were put here to shine.

Change is hard, and most people will say that they don’t like it. I think it largely revolves around fear of the unknown. Even if what we have right now isn’t what we really want….at least it’s familiar.

AND change involves picking from limitless options. It involves actually thinking what you want and being confident in that choice. That’s the scary part.

But we all have the wisdom within us, we just need to learn to trust it. You have been given the permission to change, now you just need to give yourself permission to go for it.
